How To SIM
How To SIM

Newbie to SIMming? Or just don't know how WE do it? Don't worry, its easy once ya get going.

Q:"A SIM? Just what is THAT?"
A:Well, if you've ever heard of an online RPG, that's kind of like what a SIM is. An RPG is kind of like a interactive fanfic. Where you get to write from your character's point-of-view along with other members. But it is mainly controlled by the main GM (or Game Master). Now, a SIM is an name coined by AOL members. I beleive it was because of Marvel SIM Chat (a commercial chat room where you get to SIMulate real comic book battles). SIMs take place in AOL-based chatrooms. Which means if you aren't an AOL or AIM user, you can't join. NO exceptions. The host will run the sim. A host normally has a plan, but will change things at the last possible second if he/she feels it fits the sim. I usually have a plot sheet that I use where I write down ideas for SIMs.

Q:"I know about SIMs. I even belong to a few. I've also learned that it seems each club has their own way of doing things. What are yours?"
A:Well, that's a really good question (probably because I typed it ^_^).

When you want to talk out of character (OOC) use ((double parenthesis)).

example: ((Hold on guys, my mom's calling me. brb))
WHEN YOUR CHARACTER IS MAD, OR THEY'RE YELLING, TYPE IN CAPS. But don't overdo it, please.
GOOD example: HEY! WHAT'S GOING ON WAY OVER THERE?!
BAD example: HEY... WHY'S EVERYONE COVERING THEIR EARS?
For this SIM, to show actions, use ::double-colons::
example: ::quietly sneaks up behind youma::
HOWEVER, the host will always determine the outcome of attacks. Even the ones inflicted by the villains.
GOOD example:
SuperGophe: ::kicks youma in the head::
MSilvabane: ::youma dodges::
BAD example:
SuperGophe: ::kicks youma in the head and youma reels back at force of kick::
*Aterisks* are used for sound effects.
example: *BOOM!* or *giggle!*
For narration (which only the host should use), [[double brackets]] are used.
example: [[The scene opens with the group enjoying a break from being Sailor Senshi in a nice park scene]]
Also, please, PLEASE, do NOT argue with the host. If you don't like the way the story's going, don't start yelling out "((THIS SUCKS!))" or disrupt the sim. What may suck to you could seem awesome to others. If you make an attack, and the host says it failed, don't start a rant. True, this is America, but wait until AFTER the sim when there is plenty of room for discussion. OR, if you feel that this is of complete and utter urgency, use IMs.

In the ultra-rare case of the use of telepathy, use {{these funky other brackets}}.
example: {{Sailor Nova, I am communicating to you into your mind...}}

Please note that this is NOT a G-rated SIM. Profanity can be quite plentiful, so if that sort of thing offends you, then DON'T JOIN.

Q:"Why aren't AOL chatroom dice used?"
A:Dice are random numbers and the outcome may not always work the way I would like for the story's outcome.

Q:"So what are the chances of me getting in?"
A:Refer to the Create-A-Senshi section for some tips. But if you DON'T get accepted, realize that it's not necessarily something personally against you, and don't take it that way. This is NOT one of those SIMs that accepts every person who applies. Maybe you've experienced other ones that did, but this is not one of them. I'll give you a hint, though -- use correct grammer/punctuation/spelling (it makes a better impression), and if you want a chance to re-work your rejected profile a little, then don't be nasty with Silva-chan. However, if you want to comment on the site or the club, you're more than welcome.
